So we can go straight into editing the eyes. Our example image here is already pretty clean in terms of exposure and color correction. Lets begin by opening our image within Capture NX2. So without any further delay, lets get down to business.
Hopefully following this tutorial will help open your eyes (no pun intended) to the general idea of how to do these types of corrections in NX2. So as you read along, if you feel the urge to yell into your computer screen that there are other ways i could do some of the things that are mentioned in this tutorial, keep in mind that I am only demonstrating one method. The same actually also holds true within NX2. But with NX2’s flexibility, could this not be done within NX2? The answer is yes and this series of tutorials will show how to retouch the eyes within NX2.Īs mentioned in the intro, there are many ways to touch up the eyes in Photoshop. However on portrait touch ups, even the most avid of NX2 users still end up exporting to CS3 to perform “digital eye surgery”. It’s just as easy to spot correct items in an image with NX2 (dare I say even more easily than Photoshop!). Those who are somewhat familiar with Capture NX2 know first hand how easy it is to color correct images with this great piece of software. No really, its true! Once you stop laughing, I can tell you that there are folks who do use other photo editing/correction tools one of them being Nikon’s Capture NX2. But believe it or not, there are actually people out there who use image editing software other than Photoshop. No denying photoshop is great for this and I am definitely not claiming that you forsake your Adobe ways.
From the simple red eye correction to going all out to make eyes “pop out” in an image.
Those familiar with photo retouching will be able to spit out no less than half a dozen techniques on touching up the eyes in a portrait with good ‘ol trusty PhotoShop.
